WHY MUAY THAI

MUAY THAI IS A 2,000 YEAR OLD MARTIAL ART FROM THAILAND.

Known as “The Art of Eight Limbs”, it utilizes the hands, elbows, knees and kicks, to deliver powerful strikes, and also has a comprehensive grappling component consisting of close range strikes and throws.

Originally developed for use on the battlefield, Muay Thai quickly became a favorite form of entertainment during peacetime.

From the sport’s earliest times, Thai boxers emphasized a total commitment of mind, body and soul. This indomitable will to win is still evident in Muay Thai competition today.

Now in the Olympics, and widely recognized as the most exciting and powerful ring sport, Muay Thai is rapidly gaining popularity with all ages and all types of people, whatever their goals.

The family atmosphere, camaraderie and respect at a club like JMT, make it a safe yet challenging martial art. The focus on correct technique, and following of a structured curriculum, means that the injury rate is way lower than most sports.

An average class has been shown to burn over 1000 calories, at the same time you build strength, balance, flexibility and agility, making Muay Thai an amazing form of exercise as well as a practical martial art.
